History
The decades-long dream of a medical facility to serve the needs of Ohio County was finally realized in 1936. Construction of a 12-patient clinic offering medical, surgical, and dietary facilities was started in Hartford by Dr. Marion O. Crowder, on the corner of Center Street and Apple Alley.
Under the stalwart support of Dr. Oscar Allen, a bond issue to finance a new hospital was approved by voters in 1953, and a construction contract was let in January 1955. In September 1956, a 30-bed facility was opened, on land donated by Hartford businessman and civic leader Leslie B. Carden.
Since that time, the hospital has undergone several major construction and renovation projects. Today, Ohio County Hospital is a progressive, 25-bed, acute care facility, offering a broad range of medical, surgical, and ancillary services.
