Ways You Can Contribute

Volunteers – The OCH Auxiliary

The Ohio County Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1969. Since that time, the OCH Auxiliary has grown in size and strength, now averaging approximately 100 members and steadily growing. Much equipment and many services have been contributed to the hospital through the dedicated efforts of the membership. Financial contributions have been made possible through various fund raising activities, and service contributions have been made possible through the willing hands and caring hearts of the OCH Auxiliary members.

The purpose of the OCH Auxiliary is to “render service to the Ohio County Hospital and its patients through ways approved or proposed by the Governing Board of the hospital and to promote health and well-being of the Ohio County community.” One of the many accomplishments realized by the OCH’s Auxiliary occurred with the construction of the Angelic Gift Shop. The Angelic Gift Shop is located in the front lobby of the hospital and is an official Boyds Bear® Dealer. Other specialty items include porcelain dolls and an American Indian doll collection. In addition, the gift shop offers helium balloons and cards for all occasions, stationary, and snacks.

Volunteerism doesn’t stop there. Together We Care, a community-based coalition of community leaders, parents, youth, schools, businesses, and agencies, established volunteer opportunities for middle and high school-aged youth called Youth In Action. Ohio County Hospital accepts volunteers who are high school-age young men and women who volunteer their time after school at various locations throughout the hospital. Students volunteer during the school year and the experience provides them with valuable “hands on” experience they can use when deciding on a career path for the future.

Community leaders, teachers, and school administrators recognize students for their many hours of volunteer service at an awards banquet held at the end of the school year. High school students interested in volunteering at the hospital should contact the Youth Services department at Ohio County High School.
